Making a home-made solar eclipse filter

If you don't have the necessary sunglasses during the solar eclipse, you can make such yourself. All you need is one computer floppy disk (3½" disk). The how-to follows.

  1. Detach the metal or plastic part from the disk that moves and reveals the actual readable disk.
  2. Put a screwdriver inside the disk's joinings and bend with power.
  3. When the joints have been separated, take the readable disk.
  4. Cut the metal circle off in the middle.
  5. Fold the remaining disk two times - now you have a filter that is dark enough so you can look at the Sun directly without hurting your eyes.
