If your camera has no macro mode or if you want closer macro shots, put a magnifying glass in front of the lens. This way the magnifying glass acts as a macro lens or its extension. With this you can get a macro mode into your camera for 1 to 2 euros (nowadays magnifying glasses cost that little in supermarkets). A tuning like this doesn't give you the quality of dedicated macro lenses though.
